Cover & Masthead, 8.5 X 11 inches
Advenio Magazine’s contemporary branding should fit an ancient aesthetic, so Adobe Jenson was used to develop the masthead. It’s a font with a long history, based on a 15th century typeface which is was based on earlier Roman capitals and calligraphic minuscules. These elements point back in time while still being relevant now, much like the magazine.
Department content, 8.5 X 11 inches, 11 X 17 inches spread
Advenio is focused on contemporary interactions with ancient history, and the layout approach for the front & back matter of the magazine had to speak to the intellectual target audience and brand. The design choices focus on the text of the article to reflect the literary interests of the average reader, letting the article do the talking for an info-hungry demographic
Editorial, 8.5 X 11 inches, 11 X 17 feature spreads
Advenio’s feature articles needed to catch the eye of the casual consumer while still fitting the overall style of the rest of the magazine. Breaking that mold with full bleed photos, a change in font, and colored backgrounds not seen in the rest of the magazine helped this photo-forward feature stand out when compared to the info-heavy front & back matter.
